The Yemen Society for Consumer Protection and the Yemen Standardization, Methodology and Quality Control Organization have recently announced an initiative which aims at boosting cooperation between both entities in order to protect consumers’ rights in the country. The consumer goods sector in Yemen is reportedly under a huge threat, mainly due to the increased circulation of goods that do not conform to official standards, the provision of poor quality services, as well as counterfeiting. With this cooperation, the Yemen Standardization, Methodology and Quality Control Organization will be required to provide the Yemen Society for Consumer Protection with the appropriate means to achieve the conformity of products to the approved standards. Such means include technical research and inspection, sample testing, evaluation of results, and issuance of conformity certificates.

The Yemen Society for Consumer Protection is one of the most active non-governmental organizations in Yemen. It was created back in 1997 comprising more than 500 members. The Society’s main activity is consumer awareness.

The Yemen Standardization, Methodology and Quality Control Organization is the sole authority in Yemen in respect of all issues related to standards, metrology, and quality. This public organization operates in accordance with international requirements and practices in order to develop the quality of national products and services, to sustain their competitive ability in the global markets, and to guarantee the health and well–being of all society members.
