Pursuant to Cabinet Decision no. 20 of 2020, the Ministry of Economy in the United Arab Emirates announced a revision in the official fees for a number of services related to intellectual property matters. The reduced fees are significant and cover a range of services, such as trademark applications, registrations, oppositions, assignment recordals, and search fees. The new fees entered into force on April 5, 2020.

It is worth noting that the last round of fee reductions for IP services in the UAE was in July 2019. These recent developments are part of the country’s efforts to move from service-based revenues to a tax-based system following the introduction of VAT in January 2018. This will undoubtedly further enhance the business environment, empower entrepreneurs, and encourage the creation of new investment opportunities.
