Given the country’s unremitting commitment to the protection of intellectual property, Qatar ratified Ministerial Decision no. 45 of 2017 on Establishing the Committee for the Preparation of the National Strategy for Intellectual Property and Innovation. The Decision was published in the official gazette on December 31, 2017, and came into force on January 1, 2018.

According to Article 2 of the Decision, the Committee will be tasked with drafting a National Strategy for Intellectual Property and Innovation, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization, governmental and non-governmental agencies, and experts chosen by the Minister of Economy and Commerce.

This recent update is indicative of Qatar’s drive and motivation to develop an effective administration, management, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights to strengthen national innovation and incentivize foreign investments into the country.
