Oman: To Launch Arabic Domain Names Next Year
October 21, 2010
The Omani Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that Oman will join other countries in the region in providing Arabic domain names for internet users. The TRA has passed a series of evaluations conducted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The domain name registration will be launched sometime in the middle of 2011. The Omani authorities have commented on the importance of this step in allowing governments, institutions, and individuals to experience the internet in their native language. This move is expected to increase the internet user-base and its accessibility.
