A large number of trademark files were destroyed back in 2003 as a result of the war in Iraq. The latest step in the Iraqi Trademark Office’s process to rectify the situation was the official announcement on June 7, 2010 to begin the revision of the files of trademark registrations 1 to 16090 in order to make sure that the records are in order. In case of any missing documents, owners will be asked to complete all the necessary requirements by no later than December 7, 2010. Trademark registrations with records that remain incomplete after this date will be considered abandoned. It is not clear at this stage whether this deadline will be extended.

In light of the above, Saba & Co. IP will be reviewing its files in full coordination with the Trademark Office to determine in case there are any incomplete or missing records and will be notifying its clients accordingly.
