Following the issuance of the National Intellectual Property Strategy in September, and in compliance with its mandate to unify all IP related matters under one authority, Egypt announced the upcoming establishment of the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property (EAIP).

The draft law that was issued in this regard outlines the responsibilities of the EAIP that include, but are not limited to, spearheading, and updating the national strategy for intellectual property, as well as developing the implementing regulations alongside the relevant ministries and authorities concerned, in addition to registering and granting intellectual property rights in Egypt.

With this update, Egypt shows its commitment to develop and establish a competent IP system and demonstrates its awareness of the strategic importance of IP on the country’s economic development.
