It is worth noting that the Parliament  and the Shura Council have approved Law No. 5 of 2006 concerning the Layout of Integrated Circuits and Law No. 6 of 2006 concerning Industrial Models and Designs. Accordingly, the Kingdom issued the laws on April 29, 2006 and published same in Official Gazette no. 2737 dated May 3, 2006. The laws came into effect on May 4, 2006 and the implementing regulations will be issued within the following six months.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has in fact been working on seven new IP laws designed to bring existing national legislation in line with international agreements and IP related conventions to which Bahrain is currently party. In addition to the Patents and Utility Models, Integrated Circuits, and Industrial Designs Laws, new bills are expected to be issued on Geographical Indications, Trade Secrets, and Plant Varieties.  The Integrated Circuits Law and the Industrial Designs Law are the second set of laws to come into force.
