According to a recent notification issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization on March 26, 2009 (notification no. 1/2009), a declaration was submitted by the government of Syria on February 5, 2009 requesting that all international design applications designating Syria must contain a brief description of the reproduction or of the characteristic features that are the subject of the design application. Also, international design applications must comply with the provisions of Article 87 of the Syrian Design Law which requires that multiple designs in a single application form a homogeneous unit. The declaration will enter into force on May 5, 2009.
