The United Arab Emirates and the United States signed a Joint Statement of Intent to enhance bilateral cooperation on patent examination. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

Under this agreement, the UAE Ministry of Economy and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will establish a framework that recognizes positive examination results issued by the USPTO for corresponding Emirati patent applications. This initiative will be implemented in line with UAE laws to streamline and expedite the patent granting process.

The program is designed to provide inventors and entrepreneurs with faster protection of their innovations, foster an innovation-driven business environment, and strengthen the UAE’s role as a regional hub for intellectual property rights protection.

This development forms part of the UAE’s broader efforts to modernize its industrial property system, simplify administrative procedures, and offer efficient services that support innovation and investment in knowledge-based sectors.
