The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative released on April 30, 2007 its annual “Special 301” report on the adequacy and effectiveness of intellectual property rights protection by US trading partners. According to this year’s report, Egypt and Lebanon will remain on the report’s Priority Watch List while Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will remain on the report’s Watch List.

Although serious efforts have been made in 2006 by the governments of Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia to improve intellectual property rights protection and enforcement, the United States remains concerned about continuing deficiencies in the countries’ intellectual property rights enforcement regime, problems with the judicial system, as well as retail piracy in copyrighted works.
