The Qatari government published on December 31, 2008 the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS) Agreement in the country’s Official Gazette. The Agreement came into force in Qatar on the same day.  By way of background, Qatar has been a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) since January 13, 1996 but the  provisions of the TRIPS Agreement were not enforced in the country pending its publication in the Official Gazette. It is worth noting here that following Qatar’s accession to the WTO, several intellectual property laws have been enacted or revised in the country in order to implement the obligations under the TRIPS Agreement.
