The Jordanian Patent Office has recently amended the patent protection term to be 20 years calculated from the patent’s filing date, in order to be in line with Article 4bis of the Paris Convention. Consequently, the date of grant is the same as the date of filing according to the new amendment. According to Article 4bis, patents obtained with a priority claim shall, in the various countries of the Union, have a duration equal to that which they would have, had they been applied for or granted without the benefit of priority. Prior to this amendment, the term of protection for patents in Jordan was calculated for 20 years from the priority date, if priority was claimed. Annuity calculations will change accordingly.
