Iran: Design Protection for the First Time in the Country
March 19, 2009
The regulations implementing the new trademark, patent, and industrial design law, issued back in 2008, came into force in Iran on March 10, 2009. The most important feature of the new regulations is that they contain provisions on the registration and maintenance of designs for the first time in the country. However, it is worth noting that, even though the implementing regulations are now in force, the Iranian Patent Office is still working on its setup in preparation for the new regulations and so filing of design applications is still not possible at this stage. We will be commenting on further developments in this regard in due course.
