According to data released by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), patent activity continued to accelerate in 2025, with 516 patents granted during the year and a notable rise in domestic filings.
Between January and October 2025, OMPIC received 2,414 patent applications, including 338 from Moroccan applicants and 2,076 from foreign applicants. Domestic filings increased 39% year-on-year, signaling stronger engagement from local innovators and institutions.
Life sciences dominated filings, with pharmaceuticals (27%), biotechnology (14%), and organic chemistry (11%) leading the field. Other technical domains, including materials and machinery, also contributed to overall volumes.
Universities continued to play a leading role in the national innovation ecosystem, accounting for 64% of Moroccan-origin filings, followed by individuals (20%) and companies (13%).
In parallel, business creation remained robust, with over 92,000 companies established during the first ten months of 2025, reflecting broader momentum in entrepreneurship and investment activity in the country.
