On November 24, 2025, the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) launched an online filing system for national industrial property applications. The platform allows users to file applications and make payments electronically at any time and currently supports patents, industrial designs, and utility models.

The introduction of the online system forms part of broader efforts to modernize Kenya’s IP administration, improve data accuracy, streamline procedures, and expand digital services. Previously, certain filings continued to rely on physical documentation, which could result in procedural delays.

The new system offers real-time access and integrated electronic payment options, aligning Kenya’s practices more closely with other IP offices that have adopted digital filing solutions. It also complements KIPI’s ongoing participation in capacity-building and stakeholder engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional efficiency.
